    Description

    We’re looking for the new dreamers and doers to join our Accelerate to Leadership (A2L) Program! This early leader development program targets recent college graduates regardless of major and is designed to provide the tools & resources you’ll need to successfully learn the business and set yourself on an accelerated path to a leadership role in the organization!

     

    The A2L Program offers Career Tracks that provide key milestone experiences specific to each career track. These milestones are standardized nationally across all lines of business. The Career Tracks are Food Management, Facilities Management, Culinary Management, Marketing Management, Human Resource Management. 

     

    The A2L Program provides a combination of trainings, structured account experiences, and on-the-job learning. You’ll spend approximately 15% of your time committed to training and structured program activities, with the rest of your time focused on:

    • On the job training in a leadership or individual contributor position (dependent upon career track)
    • Key milestone experiences specific to the career track that are standardized across all lines of business
    • Structured career path towards a targeted leadership role post program
    • Career readiness training & coaching
    • Direct engagement with peers, mentors & managers
    • Professional network & personal brand development

     

    Job Summary

     

    Reporting to the Residence Dining Manager and working in conjunction with the Executive Chef on a daily basis, the Assistant Residence Manager will assist the Manager with daily Food Service operations in the residence dining hall at Dalhousie University.  This will include supervision of staff, and helping to plan, organize and direct all aspects of the Food Service operations on a day-to-day basis within a corporate environment.

     

    Job Responsibilities: 

     

    • Supervise the day to day operations of the food services, includes delegating tasks, motivating and coaching employees as required.
    • Meet daily with the Manager to discuss operational and staffing concerns
    • Assist with flow of day to day operations on the floor
    • Manage and direct food production planning, waste management, record keeping, follow up, and modification based on business volumes
    • Ensure food safety standards and HACCP enforced at all times
    • Proactively manage food and labor cost controls
    • Assist with the recruitment, training and orientation of staff
    • Responsible for assisting in staff scheduling and filling shifts as needed.
    • Assist in dealing with staff related issues such as vacation requests, progressive discipline and other operational concerns as they arise.
    • Conduct weekly inventory
    • Responsible for supervising cash handling procedures, which include: Balance cash float, Safe, and verify deposit
    • Responsible for completing all safety documentation
    • Resolve customer complaints as they arise, escalating to the Manager as necessary.
    • Fill in for the Residence Dining Manager when required
    • Ensure adherence to all of ARAMARK’s Policies and Procedures
    • Ensure adherence to ARAMARK’s Health and Safety Policy
    • Other duties as assigned by management from time to time

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality/Nutrition prefered (Must graduate between December 2017 – August 2019 to be eligible for the FY19 A2L Program)
    • The start date for this program would be July / August 2019.
    • All degree requirements must be completed prior to the start date of the program (including any final internship requirements).  
    • A minimum of 1 years supervisory experience, preferably in a food service environment
    • Self-directed with strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Previous culinary or production planning experience an asset
    • Strong organizational and team building skills
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and motivate team members
    • Knowledge of Microsoft, Excel, Power Point and Word
    • Extensive knowledge of food handling and sanitation standards
    • Proven ability to multi task and work under pressure in a fast paced environment
    • Must be authorized to work in Canada and not require work authorization sponsorship by Aramark for this position now or in the future
