Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance and Facilities, the Supervisor of Maintenance will oversee the development and supervision of the day to day operations and maintenance. The incumbent will be responsible for the smooth functioning and code compliance of designated facilities, including equipment and systems, by managing and directly supervising the activities of the maintenance personnel. This individual is also responsible for the daily work assignments of the departmental staff.


  • Ensures the effective maintenance and operation of buildings, grounds, equipment and hardware by utilizing efficient planning and scheduling and ensuring work is completed according to applicable regulations and standards
  • Leads, supervises, and performance manages designated staff and is accountable for the area’s operational planning as well as resource allocation and utilization.
  • Organize, plan, coordinate, execute, monitor and deliver minor works projects.
  • Assist with major capital projects when required
  • Ensuring that work orders and service requests are completed in a timely, efficient manner
  • Order/purchase of supplies


Key Skills and Abilities Required

  • Thorough knowledge of principles related to facilities maintenance, operations, design and construction
  • General knowledge of management principles, labour relations principles and collective agreement administration, and budget control procedures.
  • Working knowledge of the following legislation, regulations and/or requirements:
  • The Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • The Occupiers Liability Act
  • Building and safety-related legislation, regulations, guidelines and standards
  • Excellent interpersonal, project/time management, organizational, analytical, communication, prioritization, problem-solving, and staff leadership supervisory skills.
  • Strong computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, Building Automation Systems and the Internet
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history


Required Skills and Experience

  • Trades Qualification as a journeyman in a relevant trade
  • 5-7 years, recent related experience, Healthcare related is considered an asset
  • Minimum 2 years direct supervisory experience, preferable within a unionized environment



  • Fluency in both English and French
